A Closer Look at Subaru and the New 2008 Impreza WRX STI

Think. Feel. Drive.

Sound familiar to you? These are the words that make up the slogan campaign of the Japanese auto manufacturer Subaru. Though the company is relatively small in size compared to its other competitors, Subaru generates quite enough of a lucrative profit for it to be recognized as among the leading industry leaders in automotive production. What else is there to expect, after all, from a company that understands the balance created by equal thought and emotion? For those at Subaru, then, constructing a line of products that run from a number of Subaru car parts or auto replacement components to tire pieces must entail high engineering performance that would ensure Subaru parts are not going to give anyone even the littlest bit of trouble, and that the designs should appeal to the tastes as well as whims of present consumers.

Japanese automaker Subaru showcased its commitment in World Rally Championships (WRC) with the presentation of the all-new 2008 Impreza WRX STI at the recent 2007 Los Angeles International Auto Show.

Subaru of America, Inc stirred the crowd with this new model featuring a 2.5-liter intercooled turbocharged Boxer engine that is capable of pumping out 305 horsepower (SAE) at 6,000 rpm. Torque output is at 290 lb.-ft. at 4,000 rpm. These figures represent a 12 hp increase over the previous Impreza WRX STI model. In addition, this engine also comes with Dual Active Valve Control System (Dual AVCS). Despite of the powerful performance, the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI still earns the Bin 5 Tier 2-Federal (EPA) and LEV2-California Tier 2/Bin 5 emissions certification. The new mpreza WRX STI also features the exclusive Driver Control Center Differential (DCCD) version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. This system now integrates the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system, with six manual differential-locking settings.

Other technical featrures of the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI include new suspension with special STI tuning, Brembo Performance Brake System with ventilated 4-wheel Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) disc brakes, and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), special chassis reinforcements, and new double-wishbone rear suspension.

The new Impreza WRX STI embodies an aggressive and sporty body styling with its
bulged fenders and rear quarter panels. Vehicle dynamics is represented with the
rear gate-mounted spoiler and aerodynamic ground effects. This marks the vehicle's competitive figure in motor sports racing. Other exterior features include functional hood scoop, functional brake-cooling air intakes, functional engine heat outlets, high-intensity discharge (HID) low beams, and fog light insert covers. A five-spoke 18 x 8.5-inch wheels and Dunlop SP600 245/40R18 tires complete the exterior package. Customers can also choose the 18 x 8.5 in. BBS forged aluminum-alloy wheels.

Moving inside, the all-new 2008 Impreza WRX STI comes with a wide array of interior features and other amenities like automatic climate control system with cabin air filtration, standard AM/FM premium stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and 10 speakers with Radio Broadcast Data System capability, optional navigation system, video jacks for portable gaming devices, and pre-wired for XM or SIRIUS® Satellite Radio. Standard new side-curtain airbags are also included as well as the new Incline Start Assist feature. This two components adds to the other standard features of the Impreza WRX STI. Compared to Acura models in segment equipped with Acura serpentine belt, I think the Subaru Impreza WRX STI is great deal.
